"PAC-MAN: BIRTH OF AN ICON is a beautifully designed and immaculately researched visual history of the first rock star video game character, chronicling his incredible journey from rough graph-paper sketch to internationally recognized global phenomenon. Filled with rare photos, obscure trivia, and fascinating first-hand accounts from the game's creators, this book will be an essential addition to every classic gamer's library. Long live Pac-Man!"
-Ernest Cline, Author of Ready Player One.
Together with co-author Tim Lapetino (of Art of Atari fame, the one game art book I'm jealous of) I compiled an officially licensed Pac-Man Book. PAC-MAN: BIRTH OF AN ICON is the first (!) book on Pac-Man's history, design and cultural impact. The English edition is published by both Cook and Becker and (sub-licensor) TITAN BOOKS, an Italian edition is published by Panini, and a French edition by Omake Books.
For this book, we talked to sources in Japan and the US, to cover both the Japanese origins of the game and the fabulous successes in the US and beyond. Bandai Namco provided us with tons of wonderful imagery, and the interviewees talked about things that aren't widely known.
The full-color book is available both as a Standard hardcover edition, and as a limited, special Collector’s Edition that comes with several extra’s. Both editions are available worldwide, details are in this link.
